Hm, this might make smaller sbc boards (like the orange pi zero 3) viable for everyday youtube browsing. Think I’ll give it a shot.

…I’m pretty sure you -don’t- need to go that far – just made a quick search about it where the linux version was made available in 2018, and absolutely no one is mentioning the need to do solder repairs.

“Respectfully”, you are doing something wrong.

That happens because you are expecting it to work out of the box – the orange pi boards are meant for tinkerers. You’ve got to get your hands dirty to get it to work/game properly. Which can be as easy as a single bash script, however.

t. I use a bash script to automatically install all the necessary packages, commands, etc.

That’s armbian “bleeding edge”, minimal install with sway. Thankfully nowadays it “just werks” and does not require further/weird tweaks like masking the systemd-logind service, and so on, so forth.

It does. I’ve bought the Windows version regardless so I can test the game on different machines.

-EDIT- …and just came to mind that some Linux games does not run at all on the opi 5 due to poor vulkan support – which might be the case of this game as well.

t. Bought the TMNT linux native brawler game (forgot its name now – TMNT something something shredder) and the game refused to run. Then, bought the windows version right after and the game ran smoothly.

Nowadays it’s all about FEX – they’ve done some significant changes thanks to valve. Including reducing all the “chit-chat” between layers, making the game be as “native-like” as possible. Also, what you’ve said/implied seems to be the case regarding OP’s rig – no comment on that.

That’s like asking, “Hey, guys! Should I eat a hamburger?” – you want to use linux because you find it useful, or because “everyone is doing it” and you want to feel included? If it’s the former… then by all means, do it. The learning curve may be confusing at first (considering most windows users have a “duck syndrome” – expecting linux to behave the same as windows), but it’s totally worth it.

Pros: Customization, privacy, ease of use (And yes, it’s much easier to use than Windows when you are fully aware of its “ins and outs”.)

Cons: None.

Then again, if I -REALLY- had to use Windows, I’d use it on another PC (preferably w/o internet) while leaving my “main” PC for Linux only. Scary, I know.

I love it at how most online communities goes like this:

Day one, no exploits: “Linux is the most perfect OS there is!”

To suddenly,

Day two, two exploits found: “ERMERGEHD LINUX IS A PILE OF SHIT HAHA OMG COMPLETELY UNUSABLE HOW ON EARTH SOMEONE WOULD WANT TO USE SUCH PIECE OF CRAP AHHAAH OMG WOW! DID I SAID IT’S SHIT?”

Folks really love to extrapolate things for the sake of drama, sadly.

Nah, folks who hire pay attention to microgestures, reactions, speech etc – not if the interviewer “Had sex with a coworker just for laughs”.

It’s completely fine to use a beginner-friendly distro and stick with it. Just be aware you are missing a lot by not going deeper into linux.

t. Started with ZorinOS. Ended up using (pretty much) anything that is in front of me, minimal install, sway, no DE. On a orange pi 5 MAX.

Simply put – you’ve got to realize a couple things:

1- Linux is not Windows.

2- Use Linux like a brand new type of software you never heard about – do not make any pre-assumptions.

3- Use Google to search for the most simple things, including “How do I install something on (Linux distro name you’ve chosen)”?

4- Have some patience – you won’t learn (everything) on day one. There will be mistakes, there will be problems you will not solve em today. But you will solve em tomorrow.

And here’s a little “cheat sheet” of mine on how to use (and get used with) linux:

1- Get used how to use the package manager. (Where you will search and install stuff.)

2- Learn what are your audio and graphic packages (The “drivers”) are. (See 3- above.)

3- Learn how to run the stuff you installed.

4- Learn how you configure the distro to your liking.

Learn all these four steps, and you can consider yourself a linux “pro” user.

Guess I must be an alien then. (That’s ‘pure’ sway – no toolbars, icons… nothing. I use my own dmenu-esque app to run binaries.)
