  • The old one got a little bit of stick drift after 7 years and I‘m using the new one for PC only probably. Weirdly enough it‘s not officially supported for that yet but there are already tools available to make it run so everything is good.

I just wanted to see what the new one was about since the first impressions were very good and I love the previous model. And I still have a (probably irrational but deeply rooted) dislike for 3rd party controllers. There were just too many crappy ones growing up. Maybe one day when the Switch 2 Pro gives up the ghost or I lose patience with it‘s odd feeling surface. Time will tell.

  • Such a shame but hardly a surprise. I love the Switch Pro controller and use it for PC games a lot. I think it’s probably my favorite one ever made even with it’s lousy sticks. It’s also easy to disassemble so you can clean it, replace the battery or simply replace the shell.

Sadly the Switch 2 pro controller isn’t only a gluey mess, it also has a much cheaper feeling to it. The surface on the plastic simply does not rest well in the hands and I bet scratches will look horrible too. It’s baffling because the old Pro controller is phenomenal in that regard. Nintendo kind of fumbled on that one in my opinion.

  • I use Discord too. This isn‘t about you or every single Discord user specifically but my impression of the average user and consumer. They may complain at first but then they vote with their wallet and often can‘t even help making ironic remarks about having irresponsible spending habits. Why you bought it is up to you and I think there are good reasons for it despite everything. The console is at the beginning of it‘s life cycle so it‘s a bit early to completely judge for me.

  • Or am I just some Discord neoliberal?

So that’s what ticket you off? Because we agree on pretty much everything else it seems. I really don’t know what to tell you here. Discord’s entire business model is neoliberal to the core so naturally you find tons of neoliberals on servers there. You know the kind who complained about 90€ for Mariokart and 10€ for Welcome Tour once they were announced but then shared pics of their Switch 2 hauls on release day in the same chat. It is what it is and I think there is no point in having strong feelings about it.

  • Unfortunately those are insanely cheap to operate for how effective they are. If anything they’ll invest even more in hacker groups and the like to generate income similar to the North Korean model. Though the Russian economy looks extremely dire. They can only keep up appearances for so long until inflation spirals out of control. A war economy needs meaningful military accomplishments to function and so far they’ve had none to really speak of. At least not compared to what they have to give up for it.

  • Sorry, I really don‘t mean to be rude or hurtful, but from all I‘ve seen and I mean ALL I‘ve seen Chinese consumers have no taste whatsoever. Yes, their manufacturing has become great if they actually care about something but this argument is not about stability. What I mean is the more a company relies on the Chinese market and tailors their commodities abd luxury products around Chinese consumers, the uglier they become. Just look at European cars lately. Hideous. So yeah sorry again but I take that as a seal of quality for Apple‘s UI design.

  • In the end of the day Nintendo products are for casual gamers who only care about commercial material. It wouldn‘t even cross their minds to read reviews or discuss it outside their neoliberal Discord bubble. Emulating? How scary!

Besides, the Switch is a beloved system and many users waited for an upgrade for years. The Switch 2 is downwards compatible and able to give your older games a considerable performance boost. 90€ for new games just isn‘t enough of an argument to sit out this generation when you‘ve already spent thousands on games in the Nintendo ecosystem. The locked in effect is strong.

I am not very surprised by this but I sure as hell am glad I bought my Switch and and several games second hand for I‘m mostly a PC gamer.
