Why did autocorrect (and swipe predictions) seem to go to shit around 2019? I remember thinking it had gotten really good… and then it got gradually worse. It’s not AI, I think it started going downhill before that, but why? I can’t see a profit incentive and it didn’t make digital communication sufficiently more difficult for conspiracy-sounding reasons.

I grew up in Florida and most houses have in ground pools, I had swim classes in elementary school and they’ve expanded that program AFAIK, and people with swimming pools go out of their way to make sure their kids can swim - while I’m sure they’re not widespread, infant swim classes are a thing. I was already a strong swimmer at five, I’m pretty sure I was water skiing in a local lake at that age, lol.

It’s on world so probably not, there’s a couple of instances that are more willing to allow it for egregious assholes though.

Honestly I don’t think there’s anything wrong with those existing and pastors using those on occasion. When it’s every week it’s a problem, but if they’re sick with a stomach bug or something most of the week I think it’s fine. Pre-prepared is probably better, and reusing an old one is funnier, but stuff happens.

Wait, do European Costcos have coin unlock carts? The only major store in the US that does that is Aldi, and they just brought their cart culture from Germany, whereas I’d kinda expect Costco to bring their cart culture (and their Costco-sized carts) to other countries. (Weirdly I’m pretty sure Trader Joe’s, owned by Other Aldi, doesn’t have coin carts.)

Honestly the weirdness is from it being federated, and I’m not sure there’s a way to make this more seamless without some serious downsides. Peertube also uses the ActivityPub protocol like Lemmy (although currently there’s no connectivity between the two like we have with Mastodon) and Lemmy can do some weird stuff too - assuming you’re not on an app, I can link to this post on my instance, and you won’t be able to interact with it.

(A “view this post on another instance” option might be a nice thing to have, I wonder if there’s enough interest for me to try to implement one?)

I’m somewhat surprised that we don’t have a Costco SCP given the cult status and kinda weirdness of their stores. The IKEA one was fun.

Anecdotally, a friend of mine pirated the Crash Team Racing remake because they loved the original as a child but they were furious about the microtransactions shoved into the remake just after launch. They wanted a couch co op game to play with their roommate and that was already loaded up in their emulator so that’s what they played… roommate went on to buy the remake because it’s one of the best kart racers on PlayStation. Piracy resulted in a sale they wouldn’t have otherwise made.
