  • You’re never going to get meaningful change voting third party under the American voting system. A first past the post voting system will ALWAYS result in a two party system. If we hurt the current parties by voting third party enough to kill one, we’ll just replace the dead party. It might be an improvement at first, but eventually, all the same forces push us back into the same end result after a while.

The US needs major reform to the electoral system. Switch from first past the post to something like ranked choice or approval voting. Abolish the fucking electoral college, which some states are attempting with a law to automatically grant all electoral college votes to the popular vote winner if enough states agree to make it guarantee the winner. Expand and guarantee access to mail in voting. And indirectly, reinvest in the fucking education system.

Of course, with full control of the federal government going to Republicans who benefit from all these problems, there’s no way any of it gets addressed now.

While I definitely think there’s truth in what you say, I don’t think it’s the real reason. The posture car seats try to put you in is just not good sometimes. If the seat itself lets you sit up straight, the headrest juts out, or the headrest is okay but the seat is curved into a bowl. It’s comfy for lazy sitting, which is what most people will want to settle into, but if you try to be mindful of your posture, you’re doing it without real support from your seat.

Got my bachelor’s and wanted to go to PhD, but realizing this has me strongly considering skipping it. I want to do the research, but holy shit, there’s so much other bullshit, and it’s so fucking competitive for funding. Since I’m considering an international move, I also have to consider how stable my position will be so I don’t get deported. I want to push science forward, but I dunno if I can wade through all the bullshit to get my chance to…

  • I don’t think Valve would help implement something like that. They’ve shown a lot of initiative in trying to push Linux into the mainstream for gaming, and a move like that would be counterproductive to that goal.

Plus, it ignores the fact that the Deck isn’t trying to be the only piece of hardware in the space, just the first to prove it’s commercially viable, and they succeeded in that. Competitive devices are coming to market, and when gamers start buying them, it’s going to seem foolish to whitelist JUST the Deck.

Rockstar’s only semi-viable play of that nature is to attempt to require SteamOS as your Linux distro, but I see no way to do that so you always and only block other Linux distros.

  • I haven’t seen reports of significant collateral damage. I’m sure there was at least some, but that’s different from large amounts of collateral damage. To be considered indiscriminate, I think it would need to have either used larger charges with a bigger blast radius or distribute the pagers more widely in the hopes that Hezbollah agents got them along with the public. From my understanding, which may be flawed, neither of those conditions are true, so while there almost certainly was collateral damage, I don’t currently think it was widespread enough to consider the attack indiscriminate. If you have a source to contradict me, I’m open to reading it.

Fuck Israel’s rampant genocidal war crimes, but I don’t think this counts as one.

  • Dude this all started because top comment knew this post was gonna be full of people discouraging voting for Harris, and then you jumped in and accused people of being pro-genocide for it. This is what I mean when I said you walk a similar walk. Anyone who disagrees with your perfect view of the world MUST be an enemy who directly wants genocide.

None of us like genocide. We’re just tired of it being used to trash the candidate who’s objectively better on the topic, shitty as that may be. I, at least, don’t care if some posts about her are negative, but I’m real fucking tired of people trying to pretend that her failings here mean getting the objectively worse Trump elected on purpose or on accident is somehow a coherent idea, much less a good one.
