For that kind of money he would be an absolute steal for a team like Everton who play on the counter. But for the system we play and the kind of low blocks we face, don’t think he would be a good option.
What I will say though is some of the goals that he scored this season reminded me a bit of Auba.(obviously Auba was a whole different class).
I havent seen him play so he might be a very good striker, but I remember Piatek putting up similar numbers in Serie A for half a season and then he flopped at Milan
Damn, I remember shelling out for a few copies of his dynamic FIFA card when he went to Milan. That was a bad investment (from both Milan and me)
He has never scored more than I think 11 in a season. And is 27 y old. Basically he hit a form of his life, which probably won’t last more than half season.
Look at his career numbers before this year…
He is 27 and has 1 season before this when he got over 10 goals
Lucas perez vibes
He got 11 goals in 20 games last season with an xG of 11.01.
Giroud was a similar late bloomer, his first callup was at 25 and is now France’s all time leading scorer. Some people just have different age progressions.
Not sure he’s an Arteta signing, but he scored more in 8 matches than Nketiah will all season… if that price is true why not 🤷
Probably need a bigger sample size and career production. He’s in a purple patch now…which is cool, but I’m dubious
Nicolas Pepe
Analyze his profile, not his stats. His GA numbers in Germany are irrelevant unless you can argue why he’d be able to reproduce that in our system in the Prem. Otherwise we just end up with another Pepe
No and no.
I feel like in the face of the endangerment of exploring relatively unproven yet brimming with potential players, we want to become arrogant with our signings. Perhaps a slight imitation of Man City’s style of business? Instead of going for Paqueta or Bruno early, clubs like City (and I dare say, we might be starting to look like that if our further businesses resemble this summer’s) go for them after they’ve been bought by another PL club.
Sorry for digressing, OP. I don’t know about the player in question and how he compares to Toney; but I knew how Paqueta at Lyon compared to somebody like Havertz, and hence my wonderment.
He is good for competition. We should have a third striker
No, just no
If you’re thinking if this guy then might as well have kept Balogun.
He’s 27. First time in his career he is having such a season. We definitely should not be the prem club that overpays for him and is surprised when he isn’t at the level. I like him a lot, but i think this is an almighty purple patch
Was mostly the price that piqued my interest. 17,5m euro is basically peanuts in todays market. I get your point though. Also think we need genuine level raisers.
Yeah the release clause is low, but I think it’s better to pay more for someone who has a high ceiling and isn’t just going through a likely purple patch thar qe’ll be looking to replace again within a season
