Needs a replay I think
Everton lucky Liverpool didn’t get two penalties.
Konate 2nd would have been very soft
Player throws himself down, minimal contact and had lost possession anyway.
If they are yellows going to be 10 every game
It’s still a yellow.
I just want consistency.
To be fair on the chelsea one… it’s the first time it’s happened this season. If there was say, a huge example of a similar incident at a high profile club that led to PGMOL apologising, now that would be a real calamity
I think everyone can agree that Konate should have been sent off, I do wonder if Dermot thinks he’s fooling anyone by his consistent use of “lucky” when it comes to these situations.
On the Maguire challenge:
He’s got to get the ball
The ref said no foul and VAR can’t get involved because it’s not clear and obvious
Regarding the Chelsea penalty for handball Dermot says it’s irrelevant that it came off Mudruk so close to Saliba
”It comes off Mudryk, but blocks it going forward to another player.
Yet it’s completely contradictory to what he said earlier this season when he said that it’s not a penalty because Diaz flicked it just in front of Jackson
I don’t hate it not being a penalty. I think it would be quite harsh considering it’s not really extended.
Only issue is if it’s going to be consistent throughout the season, which you know it won’t be.
Top comment coming true 8 games later.
I mean jackson has his hand by his chest and the ball could’ve hit him even if it does hit his hand
So what about Onana vs Wolves?
Refereeing is always about vibes of the game rather than being 100% technical. At least in England
ok Dermot
INCIDENT: Frustrated defender Jarrad Branthwaite bemoaned inconsistency in Premier League refereeing after claiming Everton were denied “a level playing field” in the Merseyside derby defeat at Anfield.
DERMOT’S VERDICT: Konate should have been sent off.
DERMOT SAYS: "Very lucky. There’s a few things - it’s so cynical [on Beto], he doesn’t make any attempt to play the ball
"Craig’s [Pawson] argument might be that he wasn’t going to get the ball, but Konate knew what he was doing.
“What summed it up was a minute later when they subbed him and that tells you the story.”
What is the difference between Manuel Akanji being shown a yellow and sent off for Manchester City against Brighton and Konate not?
"Consistency is individual. Rob Jones is consistent, he yellow carded him [Akanji] early, quite rightly, and does so here.
"We’ve all agreed that Konate’s should have been a second yellow card.
“You would hope not [the referee feeling the pressure of the game at Anfield]. The guy is put there because of his CV, he’s the best man for the job on the day it’s felt, that’s how the appointments are done.”
INCIDENT: Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by Arsenal on Saturday Night Football, but goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was lucky to not give away another penalty…
DERMOT’S VERDICT: Sanchez can have no complaints.
DERMOT SAYS: "I think if a penalty is given, he [Sanchez] can’t argue. He’s nowhere near the ball. If the referee thought he caught his own man and cannoned into Jesus, I don’t know.
“But he’s nowhere near the ball and clattered into him.”
The amount of errors is just beyond rediculous.
Even your post has an error!
I don’t know what I think about the Saliba penalty. At first I was completely convinced it was the correct call, but the ball was going so far wide and headed at him from such a short distance, and the position of his arms is clearly natural for his jump. I’m sure you can find a paragraph deep in the rule book about the frame of his body, that makes this not the wrong call. But it’s just so random and so inconsequential to the game. Crazy if the rules state the punishment for that is the opponent getting a goal. We should also not ignore that the VAR official as I understand it erroneously communicates to the ref that the ball is on target.
I also don’t understand how the one against United where the ball is travelling 30 yards and actually heading for a player before hitting an arm is not a pen, but this is.
The Jesus situation is not called because it comes from a weird situation and the clowns don’t have the ability to think for themselves.
In other words, I don’t want to hear about “letter of the law”, when it only applies for a completely random handball and not a clumsy, dangerous foul.
Jarred Gillett is still employed and given Arsenal-games as VAR Official, which should really tell you all about that organization.
Also, what the fuck does this even mean
GALLAGHER: “I don’t think for one second it’s not harsh.”
I think the pressure is just too high on these refs. They cant handle it. You can see how terrified they are when forced to make difficult decisions.
