I bought this game during the Steam summer sale and have been making my way through the story. Earlier today I finished the last Janthir story mission which was released and I’m excited to be caught up with the rest of the community on the story. During the journey I got the Skyscale in LWS4, got the griffon, did the core Tyria map completion, got 2 legendaries (and next week I’ll have a 3rd - The Ascension), and completed all the masteries for Core and PoF.

I’m really surprised this game isn’t considered to be competition for the more popular MMOs. I’ve never really gotten super deep into any of the modern MMOs, though I did play several of the older ones as a kid, even though I’ve tried basically everything on the market. GW2’s older maps all still being relevant for the most part, legendary grinds, multiple endgame game modes being viable ways to get loot, horizontal progression, the mastery system, lax daily system, and several other things I’m probably not thinking of right now really do a lot to fix the issues that have turned me off of other MMOs. Even the story is surprisingly decent for an MMO.

I remember that I played this game at launch and made it to level 40 or so, messed around in WvW a bit, then fell off the game. After I quit playing, I never heard of this game again until the last year or so when one of my friends revealed he secretly had about 1000 hours in the game, even though he had never completed the story and was still in PoF and had also never talked about GW2. I figured it was worth a shot, bought all the expansions on a whim during the Steam sale, and the rest is history. I’ve seen like 0 marketing for this game over the years. I can’t help but think there are a lot of people like me who would love this game but either have never heard of it, or tried it a long time ago and never heard that it continued development.
