A while ago I asked you guys which commonly used opinions about horror you guys hate. I quickly noticed you guys pointed out a few personalities / type of horror fans that you absolutely can’t stand. I put them in a list, here are the results:
I will present you with 10 stereotypical horror fans and I want you to pick the one you can’t stand the most, but also pick one which can be excused or shouldn’t be here.
1. The self-proclaimed brave bois: people confusing ‘this movie is not scary’ with ‘this movie is not good’
Basically the opinions that bash a good horror movie because they personally weren’t scared of it.
2. The elitists: glorifying the older movies like they’re the second coming of Christ
“It’ll never be as a good as the classic.” or “Horror stopped being good in the 80’s!” or “Psycho is still the scariest movie ever made!”
The ones who think they’re the best sort of fan because they love the classics more than modern day horror.
3. The hyperboles: rating a movie either 1 star or 10 and nothing inbetween.
The ones who think a movie is either great or dogshit, without ever acknowledging that a movie is sometimes just good. Also the ones who don’t agree with the ratings a movie get so to do it ‘justice’ they give it either a 1 or a 10
4. The politicians: the ones who give a movie a 1 star rating the moment it dares to provide any sort of social commentary.
Basically any reviewer who starts their review with ‘the movie is too woke’ or ‘the movie has a political message’
5. The edgy bois: the ones who only worship so-called ‘elevated horror’
Often caught calling Get Out or Hereditary the best horror movie ever created. Hates campy slashers and paranormal movies because it’s too basic for their edgy brains. Absolutely hate jumpscares and think it automatically makes a movie bad.
6. The ‘I would totally survive this movie’ geniuses
The ones who give a movie a 2/10 rating the moment a character does anything illogical in a life or death situation. Often caught bragging about how they would totally survive this movie.
7. The realists: the ones who hate unrealistic horror movies
Aka the fans who hate escapism and think horror movies should be realistic. Hates when movies don’t take itself serious.
8. The sequel haters: the ones who think horror movies shouldn’t get sequels and automatically give each sequel a 1 star rating
“We did not need a sequel of this!” or “This movie is just a cash-grab! Don’t watch!”
Will often deny that sequels can be better, despite several franchises having proven it’s possible by now.
9. The gore police: fans complaining about too much or too little gore
Aka the fans who think movies like terrifier are either the very best or the very worst of its genre based on its gore. Will give 1 or 10 star ratings based on how gory it was rather than the plot of the movie
10. The wannabe directors: the ones who give a horror movie bad ratings because the movie did not go exactly how they expected it
The fans who think a movie is bad the moment the plot goes in a way they did not expect. Also the ones who give a movie 1/10 because it did not live up to their insanely unrealistic expectations.
