I am smiling, crying, and absolutely seething in anger, from a few short paragraphs, all at once. My children are all teens and adults now and have never faced down the realities of a missed meal, let alone extreme hunger and malnourishment. I cannot imagine the pain the author endures watching his children try to cope with their reality, let alone the pain he must have endured not having the ability to change their reality for so long. I hope that one day, hopefully much sooner than later, Palestine will be free and his kids can eat balanced and filling meals every day, sleep calmly without the looming threat of violence, and just be themselves. If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go finish crying and dream about [redacted].
