REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) — President Joe Bidensaid Saturday that “everybody must condemn” the suspected assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, adding that he hoped to speak with his 2024 presidential rival soon.
Reminding everyone of Rule 6:
- Glorifying Violence:
Do not advocate or encourage violence either seriously or jokingly. Do not glorify oppressive/autocratic regimes.
This rule will be enforced. We don’t condone violence.
Do not advocate or encourage violence either seriously or jokingly. Do not glorify oppressive/autocratic regimes.
These rules are self-contradictory. Either you support oppression/autocracy, or you support violence in resistance against it on grounds of self-defense. You don’t get to have it both ways!
No, but see, you’re not supposed to use violence against oppressive / autocratic regimes. You’re supposed to, like, convince them to not be oppressive / autocratic with love and kindness! Because that is something that 100% works and has never backfired in the history of the world!
It’s even stupider than that: it’s not just that it doesn’t work, it’s that it’s a full-blown logical contradiction. Oppressive/autocratic regimes cannot be stopped by peaceful means by definition, because if they could then it means they weren’t oppressive/autocratic to begin with.
The rules aren’t a moral stance, it’s so the fbi doesn’t kick down their door.
- Glorifying Violence:
No I don’t think I will. This was the logical conclusion to spouting hate-filled violence-promoting rhetoric for the last 20 years
No thank you.
Wow, I’m really curious about what part of “Don’t tell me what to do” warranted a comment removal.
Rule 6 is being strictly enforced because there was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump that left two people dead and two more in critical condition. This is a condemnable act.
“Don’t tell me what to do” in response to an article about condemning the act, was interpreted as condoning the assassination attempt and was therefore removed.
What, are you some kind of fascist here to control everyone’s perceptions and speech?
Seems pretty mean to condemn.
Look, I don’t like Trump as much as the next person. He is a horrible human being, with horrible politics, and his own rhetoric has lead to violence on more than one occasion.
But as a moderator, I’m not going to cultivate an environment where assassination attempts are condoned, especially after one just occurred.
At the end of the day, this is a forum for political discussion.
Discussion about the impact on the election, the USA, etc, because of this assassination attempt is allowed.
Discussion of how Trump’s own rhetoric contributed to this is allowed.
Discussion indicating an assassination attempt is okay is not welcome, and those will be removed per Rule 6.
TIL that “failing to condemn” is the same as “condoning.” (Narrator: It’s not.)
Careful, now. Don’t want to get caught not doing the requisite amount of performative hand wringing. Might get banned.
The condemnable act is trying ushering in a fascist regime, complete with a playbook calling for internment of gays. That’s condemnable, fighting back against a potential oppressor isn’t
We can condemn it and still laugh our asses off at the irony of that a convicted felon who advocates for the proliferation of firearm usage and told school shooting victims to “get over it” just got shot at and is going to whine and bitch about it for the rest of his conscious existence.
Biden continues to flip flop on whether Trump is an existential threat to american democracy
Don’t tell me what to do.
