I love this game.
If you’re going to play the first game, and I highly recommend it, download and use the open source engine from https://keeperfx.net/. It fixes some bugs and stats from the original game and allows it to run on modern Windows systems in higher resolutions.
I loved this game since it was first released and it’s voiced by Peppa Pig’s Dad! 😆
Fun fact: in the DOS version, when you possess an imp, the only task you can perform is to mine, you cannot do anything more except attack. In keeperfx, you can grab corpses and take then to your graveyard, or grab traps and put them in place. I’m not sure whether you can put gold in your treasure room as well.
EDIT: it also fixes the bug when level 10 creatures use their speed spell, so it lasts until the end, instead of just 5 seconds.
Oh that’s great! I did not know that, thanks!
I remember my copy coming with a story booklet about a fat noble who goes into the dungeon seeking fortune and gets decapitated by Horny.
Good times.
It is payday
This is my childhood game right there. I remember the expansion Deeper Dungeons being a lot harder than the original game.
The spiritual successor for DKI and DKII, War for the Overworld was pretty good at mimicking the feeling you get from playing Dungeon Keeper, though the ending was a bit unsatisfactory.
A spiritual sequel is War for the Overworld. This thread reminded me to install that again.
Yeah, it even has the same voice actor
Ahhh, I remember this game. And now the need is there to find it again.
Pretty sure I got it off GoG for real cheap. Lemmy have a look.
Edit: It’s there, gold edition.
Both are £4.89 each

I’m open-source, check me out at GitHub.
I preferred DK2 to the first one, but it’s hella crashy.
Yeah, unfortunately. I’ll try and see how it runs on my 98 machine. Hopefully a period os will help
