The area of the cooling towers of decomissioned nuclear plant Biblis has been hit by a flood, but there seems to be no threat of contamination as the area containing waste material is on slightly higher ground.
slightly
That makes me feel better.
They said in the video the water level had already peaked, but in my opinion the general danger of having buildings near water will stay. I have witnessed massive buildings and bridges being destroyed by rushing water masses that took boulders with it like wrecking balls and removed the soil under buildings. I cecommend living a bit uphill 😆
All the waste has been ready for transport since 2019, but it’s still stored on site… 🥴
They still haven’t found a place to store the waste safely for long enough, after several decades of searching.
It’s one of the main reasons why so many Germans oppose nuclear power. They still haven’t found a place to store the waste safely for long enough

Bullshit. There’s so little of it you could store it just about anywhere. Pick a mountain that is relatively geographically stable. Chuck it in there. Literally where that waste stands right now… In the Dry Cask that it’s currently in is sufficient.
Ah yes, it’s a huge political issue that the originally pro-nuclear conservative government couln’t solve in over 20 years.
There’s already been billions spent on the endeavour. But one lemmy user knows it better. If only they all had watched the Youtube video he linked to.
Congrats on not watching the video or looking at who the presenter of that video was. You’re right though it is a political issue. All of the science backs my stance though. So your snarkiness is all on you.
I’m not watching a 35 minute Youtube video linked by some rando telling me that they know better about complicated policy issues in my country than literally everyone who tried to solve them over the past several decades.
By the way, the guy holding the lecture is Chairman at LIS technologies Inc, a company selling tech for the enrichment of Uranium.
I wouldn’t trust him to be unbiased when it comes to the dangers Uranium poses after its use.by some rando telling me that they know better about complicated policy issues in my country
LMFAO. I’m Polish and German by heritage and maintain my Polish citizenship and could claim my German citizenship if I wanted. I know more about “your” country than you think. While I currently live in the USA, I have lived in Germany. I’m not some armchair rando with no stake in the argument.

So you’re not going to watch the timestamp I provided. But will do a bunch of half assed research into the speaker. The time it took you to figure out what you did would have likely covered the 3-4 minutes of content I timestamped you to.
As of 2024…
Meanwhile… 36 years in the field teaching. All useless because he join a company as an advisor THIS YEAR. Get over yourself.

That video was recorded back in 2021. I mean we’ve only known all this information since the 1970s anyway… You know since he even uses videos from the 70’s to show that not only is what he saying true today, but has been for 50+years. But congrats! You’ve shown your hand. You won’t listen to an actual scientist (and not even just me as some “rando on the internet”)! Thanks for fucking up the country.
Edit: What’s fun though is looking at what instances the downvotes come from on my comment. I’m sorry that you are all butt hurt about me being critical of “your” country. But you guys fucked up. It’s that simple.
