I hope all the raving from DC Heads about the Flash was due to this being the reboot they needed so audiences weren’t confused with a new Superman etc.

To be honest it wasn’t a bad movie personally. There are definitely worse movies out there. I think this most likely failed as even both hardcore and casual fans know they’re rebooting the universe and Ezra’s issues were far more public than DC realized. I don’t think DC had much of a choice as all the shooting was already completed before all the crazy shit he did came out.

Well… now that sick puppy’s career is finally well and truly over. Just like it should have been two years ago.

At this point, a thorough psychological evaluation as part of the casting process might be starting to look like a good idea to producers of the big budget tentpole films and franchises.

What’s surprising is that they usually do have to do something similar. More at risk actors will have studios paying more for insurance. Ex. Why RDJ with Iron Man was a big risk.

You can’t tell me that Black Adam was better than The Flash.

Black Adam was just a montage of The Rock flexing and looking stern. The plot was non-existent. The whole movie, I just wanted to turn it off and do something better with my time, but I was curious to see if there were going to be any redeemable scenes. I regret waiting till the end to find out there were not.

The Flash was a genuinely enjoyable popcorn flick, if you were willing to overlook the unfinished CGI.

I had a problem with the initial premise of Black Adam being a villain. “Intergang” was an organized crime syndicate ruthlessly controlling the city/country. Innocent people were killed because the gang’s greed. Note, zero help or support from outside the city/country by more powerful people. So Black Adam appears and starts killing Intergang…and THEN the “heroes” of the Justice Society show up because Black Adam is killing people (just gang member criminals). Where the hell were the Justice Society when Intergang was oppressing the civilians?

The whole movie, I just wanted to turn it off and do something better with my time

When I saw the heroes attacking Black Adam instead of Intergang, I did what you didn’t. I turned the movie off about 25 minutes in and did something else. I was curious if I missed out on a better ending, and I appreciate you sharing your experience and letting me know I didn’t.

Flash is for all intents and purposes a better movie but it just was not as marketable as Black Adam was. The timing was better as the DC iirc wasn’t announced to be rebooted yet, Snyder fans were excited by the announcement that Henry Cavill is back, and The Rock has a much larger fan base than a troubled Ezra Miller. The Flash has to truly be one of the top CMBs for it to have had a chance the more you look back at it.

Ok, I’m out of the loop here, that’s the second time I’ve seen someone mentioned “unfinished” CGI. Is it actually unfinished, or does it just look that bad?

At this point CGI studios are overbooked and overworked to the absolute bone in Hollywood now. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were not able to find anyone to finish it or they just didn’t have anymore time.

They give the guy who can’t help but physically assault people his own movie and copy the theme marvel has been using and wonder why it flops…

What theme did they copy from Marvel? If you’re talking about multiverse stuff, that’s been a concept in comics for ages and DC introduced it into comics first. Marvel bringing it to the movie screen first doesn’t give them ownership of the idea.

To be fair to DC , they were already wrapped filming when the crazy shit came out (iirc). At this point they should’ve just pulled a Batgirl with the movie.

Ironically, the Batgirl movie would have likely made a profit, since it only cost 90 million and had Brandan Fraser right after he got his Oscar. But I guess the tax write-off was more important.

When it came out, not when it happened. They most likely knew well ahead of the public, and still went ahead.

People mostly just like to bitch. It’s not even like superhero movies are the only thing being made. But they are pretty ubiquitous. I guess people just see so many cross-promoted super-hero movie trailer every time they go see a movie that they get fatigue from the idea of them. Not necessarily the movies themselves.

I was listening to a recent Game Grumps episode where Arin basically went on a tirade about how superhero movies are so bland, and how they don’t build the characters and the world… but then turns around and praises some of the more recent movies (Black Panther and GotG I think). It seems people are tired of the hype surround them. Which, honestly, I completely understand.
