Our family enjoys the domes and tries to get there a few times a year. I do like the iconic architecture, but I can appreciate the inefficiency and financial hardship of maintaining such nontraditional structures.
I also think it is fair for them to focus on preservation of the natural/horticultural aspects as the more important focus. I’m glad it seems like it won’t just be demolished and all of it destroyed and gone.
I left some feedback on the new website that they link in the article. Hopefully more people do this too.
It’s a shame, but I don’t think the Domes can be salvaged in a way that the county can afford. It would be great if they could be replaced with something similar but more maintainable - maybe a connected series of large greenhouses.
