Other manufacturers: Why aren’t people buying our $80k ($120k w/ dealership markup) 150 mile range EV SUV?

    I wonder why

Even with all the claims that NOONE wants a Ford EV, I’ve seen plenty of MachE mustangs around. It might just be that NO ONE wants to pay over fifty grand for a Ford EV.

Recently went back home to the Bay Area for Thanksgiving from Pennsylvania. Was shocked to see the number of non-Tesla EVs around. Especially the Mach E, EV 6, and a fair few premium models from Audi and Lucid. Yes, I know that’s a higher income area but they also invested in non-Tesla charging networks much earlier than the rest of the states (again benefits of the economic status of the region). That being said, I think when people realize there’s a strong non-Tesla charging network they can reliably use, they’ll enjoy the other brands. The Bay of course still has Teslas as ubiquitous today as Accords and Camrys were in the early 2000s.

I go for a lot of walks in the nicer areas of Berkeley and Oakland and I feel the tide has shifted against Tesla in those areas - due to political issues associated with Musk I’m sure. I’ll bet Tesla at this moment has a much higher new EV market share in Walnut Creek or Pleasanton than it does in Berkeley. I can’t believe how many Kia, VW, Polestar and Ford EV’s I see on some streets. In 2023, if you have a “In this house we believe…” sign in your front yard you likely aren’t buying a Tesla.

Well, if we’re playing that game better not wear any of your clothes, chances are you’re supporting slave labor.

There are countless examples like this if we’re going to say X thing is bad so I’m not supporting them. Most CEO’s are garbage human beings. People just get sucked into every word Elon says because of Reddit and the media constantly fixated on the guy, while forgetting there 100k people working hard to make Tesla possible.

Because Tesla is the only viable “only car” EV option. Go with any other EV brand and you’re fucked for charging if you wanna go anywhere but local.

“But I have so-and-so EV and never have problems charging during road trips!!”

Yeah bullshit. My gf and I take her M3LR on thousand-mile road trips every month (50k miles/year of just road trips), and I know from experience that non-Tesla chargers are both difficult to find and are often out of service. I’ve seen dudes in Mach-E’s sitting at the same charger for days in Bumfuck, Montana waiting for someone to come repair it.

I recently rented a Polestar 2 and, while it was crazy fun especially in the twisties, the local Chargepoint L3 charging station had 2 of 3 chargers out of order. I was all-in on replacing the Tesla until that point.

Tesla makes the closest thing to an affordable and relatively nicer EV in the Model 3. The price has gotten more competitive lately too. Also having the lead on the EV market certainly has helped.

Only like GM and Nissan make something relatively competitive in the budget section with the Bolt and Leaf. Hyundai and KIA are certainly catching up too.

Test drove a Model Y yesterday. Very quick and the screen was intuitive, handling and suspension were decent, but the build quality, especially on the interior, was pretty cheap in my opinion

It’s a LOT of Mustang EVs, Rivians, And Hyundai around me. I see these more than Teslas these days.
