I hope that AMD continues this trend in the future where they keep the previous Socket around even after a new one comes out. They’ve made the AM4 platform an entry to budget PC builds that still have extremely good performance.

AMD has done a really good job with socket retention. With another SKU releasing in 2024, 7 years is a long time for support and if anyone stuck with Ryzen 1000 or 2000 until now, then you really got your money’s worth and just get a drop in upgrade.

It seems they’re just milking the rest of the silicon they had set aside for AM4. Can’t complain really, offering support for as many AM4 users at as many performance and price points as possible while keeping unused silicon out of landfills. Complete AMD W in my eyes.

I started with a 1300x, currently have a 3600, and I’m considering a 5600x3d or a 5800x3d in a year or so. My only concern is that I have an Asus prime a320m-k. I’ve read the VRM is actually better than the other a320 boards but I don’t know if it’s equipped to handle 105w tdp.

If the 5700x3d keeps it’s 65w tdp, then that would be the way to go on an a320 board. They run nice and cool

IMHO dump the A320 board and the socket as a whole. Maybe wait a little and jump to AM5. It’s more expensive for sure, but it’s worth it. Your A320 board is likely not supporting the higher end AM4 cpus and the VRMs will run HOT.

If you need to buy another board + CPU for an upgrade, it makes no sense to buy AM4. A 7600X + B650 board will cost you 350€ now and 32Gb DDR5 ram will push it to 460€. Maybe next year these will be cheaper.

I personally don’t see a reason to go with am5 when am4 can give me 90% of the performance at 1/3 of the price. I’ve had the board since 2017 so if I burn it up after 6-7 years of use I definitely got all the value I could from a board I paid $45 for.

What nobody seems to mention is how in a year or two peop,le who buy used harware will have so many options with AM4 and for either E-sports, or even AAA gaming at low settings, these chips are goiing to be either one of two things.

    1. KILLER Value

    2. because they are limited runs be considered “rare” and ebay sellers who don’t know their ass from their elbow will sell them as such.

I personally hope for the former.

This seems like a bad idea for AMD unless they are just dumping chips. The 5700X is already as fast as the 5800X when it comes to gaming so I would bet the 57000X3D will be close to the 5800X3D.

Why is it a bad idea? It’s likely chips that can’t make the 5800x3D specs. So instead of selling them at 5600x3D prices/specs, they can introduce the 5700x3D which has a higher price.

Again man no one seems to have reading comprehension. I said UNLESS they are trying to dump chips. So they have been sitting on chips that did not meet validation and now want to dump them, okay cool.

IF they had just thought lets add more chips it would be bad idea.

If you knew what CPU binning and validation are you’d realize this is actually an awesome idea. If they have CPUs that aren’t able to hit the target frequency and voltage range they’ve set for the 5800X3D, why not validate those chips at a lower frequency and voltage and sell it to people that want a fast, cheap, low power chip for gaming while making a profit instead of throwing it in the bin? Same as the 5700X vs 5800X. Makes perfect sense.

I understand chip binning and validation, the bad idea comes from the fact of why bother to buy a 5800X3D when you can buy a 5700X3D? As for the validation argue you made my initial point for me. They have a bunch of chips that failed to hit certain requirements, been sitting on them and now need to dump them so here we go. Might want to read my entire post and look at what I am saying before jumping to an assumption.

Might be interesting depending on the cost but the 5800X3D is so expensive in Australia that the 7800X3D is going for basically the same price… Might just be better ditching my AM4 or settling for a 5700X instead…

Same in Norway. I wanted to Get a 5800x3d because the itx motherboards Are much cheaper. It’s a 400 euro part here, which is completely mad.

I have been looking at Hagglezon to see who has the cheapest and it is currently €313 in Amazon France
