It may be the only place that’s allowed in Nevada has the largest lithium deposit but has outlawed strip mining so it can never be touched it pollutes the water table

The USGS’s Earth Mineral Resources Initiative and the DOE’s examination of energy-resources byproducts will identify many more sources of energy-related minerals. Stay tuned.

That’s the thing about the people that claim we don’t have enough lithium…they point to current supply and say it is insufficient. But we didn’t need huge amounts of lithium until now…and when we put in an effort to find more, we find that there’s plenty of lithium out there.

They also ignore that it can also be almost completely recycled, its not lost. You mine it once and keep using it multiple times.

They also completely ignore the fact that technology improves and we are actively working on alternative batteries that use less rare minerals and are safer.

Plus unlike fossil fuels, there’s a shit ton of alternate materials that can be used to make batteries. Big players are currently betting on sodium ion

Sodium ion batteries may be a big game changer. Not the best batteries but they are cheaper and that is what is most important.

They will be fine for lower spec vehicles. Folks used lead-acid for golf carts and eBikes for a long time. Na-ion will be MUCH better than that.

Old news. Bogged down with environmental/Native American concerns. The company also has strong ties to China.

I’m much more hopeful for American Battery Technology Co.’s lithium deposits in Tonopah Flats NV, where the locals actually want a mine

Lithium is important right now, so this is good news if it is true, but I would be surprised if we don’t see some big advancements over the next 20 years that make it less important. If we ever figure out how to produce supercapacitors that are sufficiently super and sufficiently capacious, we could conceivably stop using batteries altogether.

Nevada has the largest Auge of lithium, but at the same time they have blocked stripmining because it pollutes the water table. so mining here in America will be largely impossible because we are not going to allow the Earth to be destroyed in the name of saving the earth

No don’t do it 🇺🇸! Who will be left to feel outraged on the behalf of Africans if their mines aren’t needed anymore?

So we’re going to destroy our planet in the name of saving our planet. Yeah I don’t see this happening.

The problem is states like Nevada have outlawed strip mining because mining for lithium pollutes the water table. We certainly don’t want to add to the climate problems by doing that. And we already see the water supply issues in the west where most of the mining would be able to be done. This is not a model that will ever get approved.
