They KNOW they’re spam calls. They KNOW the uncheckmarked numbers are not valid. So why the hell do they let these calls through? Anyone know?

Verizon’s call filter blocks anything that is suspected spam (if you set it so.) There is also a setting “Silence junk callers” that specifically silences “spam likely” (even without call filter.) I very rarely get a call that rings through. Check to see if your carrier has a spam blocking app.

I muted unknown callers on my iPhone. Everyone important is a contact and if an unknown number calls I can see the visual voicemail

AT&T comes with a spam blocker app called Armor something or something like that. It cuts down the calls by about 80% and it’s free.

Damn, I moved from CT back in ‘96. Very weird for me to see a post on Reddit showing a Waterbury phone number. I was from Naugatuck.

Ayo, I don’t get spam risk written on unknown phone numbers on my iPhone 13 Pro. Is there some setting option to enable that?

It’s prob AT+T doing it. It JUST started. Now I don’t answer ANY phone calls. When it stops ringing I look at the number to see if I have to call back. Fucking pain in the ass- every day

Apple added a setting in iOS 17 that lets you block calls that the carrier marks as spam, but unfortunately it doesn’t actually work. It worked for maybe two beta builds over the summer, then it stopped and Apple hasn’t bothered to fix it.

The phone companies make a fraction of a penny for each one of these calls to facilitate the interconnection, that’s why it will never stop.
