Battlefield 2023
I don’t want to live in that world.
We got this but no healthcare
One of my childhood dreams shall be made true, I shall have a jet pack like dash Rendar
Is that still canon?

The world. Let’s invent a jet pack.
America. And let’s add a gun that can be aimed by moving your head
The article says that this is a UK company, I thought?
Yup. The Royal Marines that are developing the idea, and the company’s founder is a former Royal Marines reservist. But the Glock attachment is a US Nazy Joint Prototyping and Experimentation Maritime development. It seems like everyone is looking at this as a great tool for ship to ship interdiction and boarding.
Rather than having to use a slow rigid inflatable boat and climb into the ship with a rope ladder, or transfer with a helicopter that can only effectively drop all your troops in one location, you use these to individually drop your troops off in precise locations around the ship.
Basically this but with jetpacks.
Utterly worthless against an armed target, of course.
Try it against somebody standing stationary on the ground with a rifle while you try to line up a pistol shot in a jetpack that’s jittering around.
For 50 years we have been using helos to drop people to do so the same tasks, are those folk hanging out of the helo more or less vulnerable?
OK, the right reply this time.
Yes: soldiers fast-roping out of helicopters are indeed seriously vulnerable to fire from the ground. That’s why if they do that when they know there are people with guns on the ground, they will lay down heavy suppressing fire from the choppers or other methods of suppression. Also, it’s called “fast-roping” for a reason: you get your ass to the ground just as fast as possible, which means that if anyone is shooting at you, you try to make yourself a very difficult target to hit.
But a guy in a jetpack doesn’t have that option, he’s trying to keep the rig steady so he can line up his own shot. Without suppressing fire from other sources, the jetpack guy is boned.
It cost me $150 to have a 3-minute Zoom conversation with my doctor.
But now we’ve got this I guess.
So flying AND catching hot brass in your face! Fun!
That sounds like a good idea until someone is shooting back.
So the video is not in the article but 50 other videos are? You have to dig through the paragraphs to find the link. RRrR!
In any case, this seems like a neat toy looking for a purpose. I don’t see the utility of an autopistol in military applications and I really would not want my hands stuck moving in and out of jet boxes while trying to use my rifle in a combat situation.
I could see niche uses for this, but for average combat it seems like an easy target
This world is doomed
Killing people has never been cooler
So a flying flesh target with no armor? Got it.
These were/are getting tested for boarding purposes, would the target be more or less vulnerable then the guys in the RIB approaching at half the speed, or the guy dangling out of the helicopter above the target?
There’s a big ol’ peroxide fuel tank on his back, it’s an exploding target. They should paint the tank red and put a flashing light on it.
