As you can see in the top right, when the LE is plugged in while playing in a dark room, there’s quite a bit of light shining through the front of the translucent shell (brighter and more distracting than this photo really illustrates). Didn’t think about the possibility because it was never an issue with the opaque standard shell, as the light only shines through the top side of the shell, which you weren’t looking at.

Would be nice to see a toggle to disable that light when playing (can tell if charging or not via the display anyway in that case). Until then I guess the only reasonable fix is to not play while plugged in (or electrical tape, lol).

So put a piece of tape there or darken it with a marker or something. Or post this in the 100 other threads on this posted today.

Not me liking this because I was so used to the GBA.

Only in a pitch black room would this be distracting and your light is green which means it’s fully charged, pull out the plug and let it discharge.

Not a good idea if you really value battery health. Leaving it plugged in prevents it from using the battery and thus saves cycles. If you’re able to use a plug then you should take advantage of it and save those cycles for when you don’t have access to a plug or it’s otherwise inconvenient.

Honestly, people in this sub have posted results of their launch day steamdecks battery after tons of usage, it’s it’s barely degraded. Plus, valve used a lot less glue for the battery, so it would be an easy swap if the battery started to degrade, we are talking years of heavy use.

Oh, no I think you’ve got the wrong idea. I’m not saying I would ever forgo its portability for some anxiety of battery health. I’m just saying that in my position, I typically have access to a plug right next to me. In this case I will reach over and plug it in and it doesn’t make much sense to intentionally unplug it if you care about getting the most out of your purchase. I mean, hell, that’s actually extra effort to unplug it when it’s already plugged in.

Tbh If its an rgb led as opposed to an only white one it would be so nice to have an option to have the light always on showing your battery state

Sweet! I was literally talking to a friend about it when I got my LE on Tuesday and said “It wouldn’t surprise me to see a patch with more light options soon knowing how receptive Valve has been with other small issues.”
