I had a tire pressure warning come up on screen during the drive yesterday but the on board computer said I can resume the drive as the car is equipped with run-flat tires.
Well, it turns out that these Pirelli tires are not run flats and the pressure dropped quickly and below critical. The car has no spare tire, no tire-puncture fix solutions in place, no high-jack or even a pump included.
The car is the “Ultimate pack”… Does this sound normal?
Bought the car new from BMW.
You would have to add the option of the space saver spare in order to have a spare tire and jack in BMWs.
I literally laughed in an advisor’s face the first time they told me what their tires cost, and not intentionally being an asshole about it, I laughed because it was actually hilarious how unreasonably expensive it was
All I can see is a hydraulic jack holding up a car with no jackstand there for safety, which I would say is pretty normal for a shop that does not care about training or safety.
Considering BMW dealers hire literally kids out of high-school, I’m not surprised.
Lube and tire tech is an entry-level position, so yeah, it’s a perfect job for someone right out of high school. Would you rather them have an associates?
Every manufacturer does… not just bmw.
Jacks are suitable for use when changing out a tire, but not for working under the car.
You gotta read the description under the photo
If all they are doing is a tire it’s no issue. Nobody is getting underneath that thing
It’s not like the Tech is crawling under the car to change the tire
Dude I’d just get the road side service that insurance sells. I paid $7 for 6 months. I don’t buy run flats anymore. Seems a bit unnecessary, owning a BMW, something can go wrong and need a tow…
You should ALWAYS know if you have a spare before getting on the road… especially with performance tires. They have donuts for your car. Get one. I hope this is helpful. I’m not trying to ve a 🍆
runflat tires need to be put in the computer, everytime you chance your tires you gotta put that in the computer, things such as summer or winter tires, size and if its a runflat or not
so its posible the they put in the computer that its runflat instead it isnt
its in the vechicle settings on tires
On my 2022 x5m , the spare tire was an option and needed to be added at order. It is not standard.
You sure those aren’t run flats? The pirellis don’t say run flat they say RSC
M cars don’t come with run flats, they also don’t come with a spare. You should have a mobility kit in the boot, which should have come with the car. Flick the switch one way and it’s a compressor, flick it the other way and it’s seals the tire and inflates it.
Which Wheel/tire set did you have on the X5? Not all are RFT’s
I don’t think M Cars come with run flats. Also, if the car says you can continue driving, evaluate the problem and verify that it’s actually safe to do so because a lot of the times the car will say it’s safe to continue driving when in reality you should probably stop and be towed.
Yes. BMWs suck.
It’s not that BMWs suck so much as BMW’s business practices suck.
Most m cars never came with much in terms of flat. My e46 had just the compressor and slime. E39 has nothing. Of course the e36 is fully loaded with everything you need
My e39 had the mobility kit
YIKES!
Yea lots of luxury cars are like this now unfortunately. My q7 doesn’t have a spare or jack but comes w a mobility kit that has sealant and a compressor that broke. For long distance driving I might consider a spare hitch carrier
Do not put pirellis on your car !!! (100 fire emoji)
