China is starting to roll out their 6G already which promises 100Gbit/sec. By the time the rest of the world gets its from a other vendors China will already have over 2 million towers upgraded to the system, just like what happened with 5G.

I did have a 5G home internet once and it was a masisve upgrade over the 30mbps that the wired maxed out at (which was a overdue upgrade over the 15mbps)

Or he realizes that both are fast enough for most people, and the market for extreme internet speed is a bit like the market for sports cars that can do 150 mph. You can sell them to enthusiasts, and to people who are convinced by shiny ads, but most people aren’t going to notice that extra speed in everyday use.

If an ISP figures they can get 100% of customers in a neighborhood by building fiber infrastructure down every street and renting space on poles, or they can get 90% of those customers by installing one cell tower, some might be OK with a relatively small investment that still gets them most of the customers.

I had someone at church tell me that wireless is the way forward. The kicker is that this came up in a discussion about live streaming. NDI over WiFi is…bad.

No one is expanding fiber coverage? I make a very good living managing around 100 technicians doing just that across multiple states.

lol the latency on wifi is horrible. That and the fact that all the wireless noise makes it shitty slow.

Fibre is infinitely more able to expand speeds than wifi. Remote Rural areas will eventually catch up as the prices drop in time.
