This is Michael Oliver on VAR being Michael Oliver VAR.

He’s the biggest “umm actually” ref in the league.

Look at that time he gave Martinelli two yellows from the same passage of play. He loves to enforce interpretations of the rules that are technically correct but almost never enforced.

Erling Haaland’s success in converting the penalty underscores his status as one of the most sought-after strikers in world football. His ability to score from a variety of situations, including penalties, adds to his market value and reputation.

So the referee can stop the game even if the ball is in play to check the monitor and make a decision? Huh, funny how it benefits City to get a soft as fuck penalty, whereas a completely legitimate Liverpool goal is… “can’t do anything”

Sterling literally gets shoved to the floor by a defender nowhere near the ball: No penalty

Hojlund doesn’t defend with his hands in his pockets: Penalty?

tbh I agree it’s a penalty. but they should always be called, not just sometimes. hope it doesn’t kill the game, it’s been good so far.
